In a major step towards improving citizen convenience and digital governance, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has partnered with Google to display authorised Aadhaar Centres on Google Maps. This initiative will soon enable residents across India to easily locate verified Aadhaar service centres and access essential Aadhaar-related services without confusion or misinformation.
This collaboration is expected to roll out in the coming months and will significantly improve public access to more than 60,000 Aadhaar centres, including modern Aadhaar Seva Kendras (ASKs) across the country.
Easy Identification of Verified Aadhaar Centres
Under this initiative, when users search for Aadhaar services on Google Maps, they will be directed only to verified and authorised Aadhaar centres. This will help eliminate fake listings and unauthorised agents, ensuring residents receive services from genuine government-approved facilities.
Residents will also be able to identify centres based on the type of services offered, such as adult enrolment, child enrolment, biometric updates, address update, or mobile number update. This feature will reduce unnecessary visits and help citizens choose the correct centre based on their requirements.
Service Details and Accessibility Information
In addition to service categorisation, Google Maps will display important details such as operating hours, availability of parking, and infrastructure accessibility including divyang-friendly facilities wherever applicable. This will make planning visits easier and more efficient.
The collaboration aims to improve transparency, reduce misinformation, and enhance ease of living for Aadhaar holders nationwide.
Shri Bhuvnesh Kumar, CEO of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), stated that the authority is focused on improving convenience for Aadhaar number holders and ensuring authorised centres are easier to locate.
Use of Google Business Profile for Real-Time Updates
In the next phase of the collaboration, UIDAI will use Google Business Profile to manage centre information and respond directly to feedback from residents. This will ensure accurate, updated information and foster a transparent service ecosystem.
The partnership may also explore the possibility of direct appointment booking through Google Maps, enabling residents to schedule visits efficiently and avoid long waiting times.
Ms. Roli Agarwal, Country Head, Strategic Partnerships at Google India, emphasised that integrating verified Aadhaar centres into Google Maps will help millions access trusted government services with greater confidence.
Impact on Public Convenience and Digital Governance
This initiative represents a strong step toward digital governance and citizen-centric service delivery. By integrating Aadhaar infrastructure with a widely used digital platform like Google Maps, the government is bridging the gap between essential public services and citizens.
The move is expected to:
Enhance public convenience
Reduce fraud and misinformation
Improve transparency in Aadhaar services
Streamline service access across India
Promote digital empowerment
With Aadhaar being a crucial identity document linked to banking, telecom, subsidies, taxation, and welfare schemes, ensuring easy access to authorised centres is a significant reform in public service delivery.
This partnership marks a new milestone in strengthening India’s digital infrastructure and improving the ease of living for residents nationwide.
