Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Ayush, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, will inaugurate the renovated Co-location Centre of the Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine (RRIUM), Mumbai, at the JJ Hospital campus in Mumbai. The event will also mark the formal celebration of Unani Day 2026 and the inauguration of a National Conference on “Innovation and Evidence in Unani Practice.”
The conference is being organized by the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) under the Ministry of Ayush and aims to strengthen evidence-based research and innovation in Unani medicine.
Renovated RRIUM Co-location Centre: A Boost to Evidence-Based Research
The upgraded Co-location Centre of RRIUM, revamped at a cost of ₹3.84 crore, represents a significant step toward strengthening Unani healthcare services within a modern medical ecosystem. Established in 1984, the Centre has long served as a hub for clinical research, academic training, and patient care.
With its modernized infrastructure, the Centre will now support enhanced evidence-based clinical studies, improved patient services, and stronger collaboration between Unani and contemporary systems of medicine, promoting integrative healthcare models within one of Mumbai’s leading medical campuses.
National Conference on ‘Innovation and Evidence in Unani Practice’
The inaugural session of the two-day National Conference will commence at 10:30 AM on February 14 under the chairmanship of the Ayush Minister. The event will bring together policymakers, researchers, academicians, practitioners, and industry representatives to deliberate on innovation, scientific validation, and global collaboration in Unani medicine.

Observed annually on 11 February, Unani Day commemorates the birth anniversary of Hakim Ajmal Khan, a renowned Unani physician, educationist, and freedom fighter. The celebration reaffirms India’s dedication to preserving and promoting the rich heritage of Unani medicine.
The 2026 celebration under the leadership of Shri Prataprao Jadhav underscores the Government’s vision to mainstream traditional systems of medicine, strengthen research validation, and expand their global footprint through innovation and integrative healthcare strategies.
