Ayush Substances
Spread the love

The Ministry of Ayush has taken a major digital leap in integrating traditional knowledge with modern technology through the launch of DRAVYA (Digitised Retrieval Application for Versatile Yardstick of Ayush). Developed by the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), the portal serves as an innovative online knowledge repository designed to digitise, unify, and modernise information on Ayush medicinal substances.

Cataloguing 100 Key Medicinal Substances in First Phase
In its first phase, the DRAVYA portal will catalogue information on 100 key Ayush substances, with data continuously updated through a dedicated entry software to ensure accuracy, precision, and authenticity. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to evidence-based research and the systematic documentation of India’s traditional medicinal wealth.

AI-Ready and Integrated with Ayush Grid
A distinctive feature of the portal is its AI-ready architecture, which allows seamless integration with the Ayush Grid and other initiatives under the Ministry related to medicinal substances and drug policy. The platform also supports QR code integration, enabling easy access to standardised data displays in medicinal plant gardens and drug repositories across India.

Launch During Ayurveda Day 2025
The DRAVYA portal was unveiled during the 10th Ayurveda Day event held in Goa on 23rd September 2025, in the presence of Shri Ashok Gajapathi Raju (Governor of Goa), Dr. Pramod Sawant (Chief Minister of Goa), Union Minister of State (I/C) for Ayush Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, and Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush. The launch marks a milestone in bringing Ayurveda and other Ayush systems into the digital era with a focus on scientific validation and global outreach.

A Comprehensive, Open-Access Knowledge Platform
The DRAVYA portal consolidates data from classical Ayurvedic texts and modern scientific research platforms into a single, easy-to-navigate interface. Users can search for substances used across Ayush systems and explore detailed profiles encompassing Ayurvedic pharmacotherapeutics, botany, chemistry, pharmacy, pharmacology, and safety data. This dynamic and open-access database is designed to serve as a central reference for researchers, practitioners, educators, and policymakers.

Leaders Speak: Empowering Ayurveda through Technology
Highlighting the significance of the initiative, Union Ayush Minister Shri Prataprao Jadhav said, “DRAVYA is more than a digital archive — it is the living embodiment of India’s knowledge tradition in a contemporary form. By merging ancient wisdom with modern technology, we are strengthening the scientific foundation of Ayurveda and other Ayush systems for global collaboration and innovation.”

Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, added, “DRAVYA exemplifies the government’s vision of bringing Ayush knowledge into the digital era with scientific rigour and global accessibility. By integrating classical references with contemporary research, this platform will serve as a credible, technology-driven resource for the scientific community, policymakers, and innovators worldwide.”

Prof. Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General, CCRAS, noted, “This platform will be a cornerstone for researchers, practitioners, and students. It will facilitate cross-disciplinary collaboration, foster pharmacopoeial harmonisation, and support evidence-based validation of Ayush drugs.”

A Step Toward Globalising Indian Traditional Knowledge
With its modular, scalable design, the DRAVYA portal represents a transformative step in unifying traditional medicine with modern science. By enabling real-time research integration and ensuring data authenticity, it aims to make Ayush knowledge globally relevant, accessible, and verifiable. This initiative not only preserves India’s rich heritage of medicinal wisdom but also strengthens its potential as a global leader in holistic healthcare and wellness innovation.
