The Survey of India, under the Department of Science & Technology, is set to host a National Workshop on Strengthening of Geospatial Ecosystem titled “Geospatial Mission: An Enabler of Viksit Bharat” on 17 December 2025 at Yashobhoomi, Sector 25, Dwarka, New Delhi. The workshop is envisioned as a high-level platform to bring together policymakers, technologists, industry leaders, academicians, and domain experts to deliberate on the future of India’s geospatial landscape.

Inauguration and Leadership Vision

The workshop will be inaugurated by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Honourable Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Science & Technology, Ministry of Earth Sciences, and Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, who will attend as the Chief Guest.
During his address, Dr. Jitendra Singh is expected to underline the Government of India’s strong emphasis on advancing geospatial capabilities, encouraging collaborative innovation, and unlocking the transformative potential of geospatial technologies for national development.

National Geospatial Mission and Viksit Bharat 2047

The National Geospatial Mission, announced in the Union Budget 2025–26, reflects the government’s commitment to embedding advanced geospatial technologies into critical sectors such as urban planning, infrastructure development, disaster management, environmental monitoring, and governance.
The workshop aligns closely with the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, positioning geospatial intelligence as a foundational enabler for data-driven decision-making, sustainable growth, and resilient infrastructure.

Key Focus Areas of the Workshop

The National Workshop will feature detailed technical and policy sessions covering priority themes central to India’s geospatial future. The major focus areas include:

Modernisation and strengthening of the National Geodetic Reference Frame, which forms the backbone of accurate positioning and mapping systems across the country.
Strengthening of geospatial data and mapping infrastructure to ensure high-quality, reliable, and accessible spatial datasets.
Role of standards in harmonising geospatial frameworks, enabling interoperability and alignment with global best practices.
Keeping pace with technological advancements in the geospatial field, including innovations in data acquisition, processing, analytics, and integration with emerging digital technologies.

These sessions will enable stakeholders to identify gaps, explore emerging opportunities, and accelerate the adoption of future-ready geospatial solutions across public and private sectors.

Technology, Innovation, and Emerging Trends

Experts participating in the workshop will discuss how India can stay ahead in a rapidly evolving geospatial environment. Special emphasis will be placed on advanced remote sensing, high-resolution mapping, geospatial analytics, AI-driven spatial intelligence, and the integration of geospatial data with digital public infrastructure.
The discussions aim to ensure that India’s geospatial ecosystem remains agile, scalable, and globally competitive.

Objective and National Significance

The workshop reflects the Survey of India’s commitment to building a robust, standardised, and future-ready geospatial ecosystem capable of supporting India’s long-term developmental goals. By fostering dialogue among government bodies, industry players, and technical experts, the event seeks to accelerate the implementation of the Geospatial Mission and promote evidence-based policymaking across sectors.

The National Workshop is expected to emerge as a milestone event for India’s geospatial community, reinforcing the role of geospatial intelligence as a strategic national asset in the journey towards Viksit Bharat.
