One-District-One-Product
Spread the love

The One District One Product (ODOP) programme is a nationwide initiative designed to identify, promote, and brand at least one unique product from every district of India. With a vision to accelerate balanced regional development, ODOP strengthens local economies by boosting production, improving market access, and expanding export opportunities. As of 19 August 2025, the initiative has identified 1243 unique products from 775 districts, covering sectors such as agriculture, textiles, handicrafts, and food processing. This extensive list is publicly available through the official ODOP product document shared via Invest India.

District-Wise Product Identification and Branding
Each district’s unique product reflects its cultural, agricultural, or artisanal identity. The ODOP initiative ensures that these products receive tailored branding, packaging, and quality-improvement support. By doing so, it helps artisans, farmers, and small enterprises increase visibility and competitiveness in both domestic and international markets.

Steps Taken for Promotion and Export Growth
To expand the reach of ODOP products, multiple strategic interventions have been implemented. Domestic promotion drives include participation in national-level exhibitions, skill development workshops, and capacity-building programmes conducted in partnership with government bodies and industry experts.
A major milestone is the GI-tag inspired ODOP Bazaar on Government e-Marketplace (GeM), where ODOP sellers can onboard and showcase their products to institutional buyers.
Internationally, ODOP products have been promoted through Indian Missions abroad, virtual buyer–seller meets, and participation in global expos. The gifting of ODOP products during G20 meetings in India significantly boosted their global recognition and appeal.

Integration with District as Export Hub (DEH)
The DEH initiative, led by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), works closely with ODOP to identify products and services with strong export potential. State Export Promotion Committees (SEPCs) and District Export Promotion Committees (DEPCs) have been established across all States and UTs to strengthen export ecosystems at the local level.
These committees enable coordination between producers, exporters, and administrative units to streamline export planning, infrastructure development, and international market linkage.

Strengthening Local Economies and Rural Entrepreneurship
ODOP has become a catalyst for rural development, empowering local producers while enhancing India’s cultural and economic identity. The initiative not only supports entrepreneurship and employment but also revives traditional crafts and indigenous skills that define India’s diversity.
With sustained government backing and global exposure, ODOP is positioned to transform district-level industries into globally competitive brands.
