The Ministry of Ayush, through the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) and its Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI), Bhubaneswar, in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and its Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC), Bhubaneswar, will host a two-day National Seminar on “Hepatobiliary Wellness through Ayurveda: Bridging Traditional Wisdom with Contemporary Science” from 25th to 26th October 2025 in Bhubaneswar.
Themed “Yakrut Suraksha, Jiveeta Raksha” (Protect the Liver, Preserve Life), the seminar aims to advance integrative and evidence-based solutions for liver and biliary health, combining Ayurveda’s holistic wisdom with modern biomedical research.
Ayurveda’s Scientific Validation and Integrative Approach
Highlighting the significance of the initiative, Prof. Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General, CCRAS, stated that Ayurvedic sciences offer a holistic framework for hepatobiliary wellness through preventive and sustainable healthcare. He emphasized that collaborative research will help validate Ayurvedic formulations scientifically, strengthen global credibility, and open new pathways for innovative and evidence-backed treatments.
Dr. Sanghamitra Pati, Additional Director General, ICMR and Director, RMRC Bhubaneswar, noted that hepatobiliary disorders demand cross-disciplinary innovation. She stressed that collaboration between Ayurveda and modern biomedicine can deepen understanding of disease mechanisms and lead to comprehensive, personalized healthcare models that are both preventive and globally relevant.
Seminar Highlights
The seminar will feature deliberations across five key themes focusing on liver and biliary health.

Day One: Holistic preventive and therapeutic approaches, including Ayurveda dietetics, Dinacharya, Rutucharya, Panchakarma, detoxification therapies, and discussions on disease-specific management of NAFLD, Hepatitis, and Liver Cirrhosis.

Day Two: Evidence-based integration showcasing experimental research on the safety and efficacy of Ayurveda formulations, hospital integration protocols, and emerging concepts like the Gut-Liver Axis.
Over 58 scientific presentations (22 oral and 36 posters) will be presented, highlighting clinical outcomes, translational potential, and research innovations.
An exclusive session on “Ethnomedicine in Hepatobiliary Disorders” will feature 20 tribal healers from across Odisha, showcasing the Ministry’s inclusive approach to preserving and integrating indigenous medical knowledge.
Ongoing Research Initiatives
The Ministry of Ayush, through CCRAS and collaborating institutes, is conducting extensive studies on Ayurvedic interventions for liver health. Notable research includes:

Pre-clinical studies on Picrorhiza kurroa (Kutaki) and Ayush-PTK formulations demonstrating hepatoprotective properties.

Collaborative projects with CSIR-CDRI, Lucknow, evaluating Ayurvedic drugs against ATT-induced hepatotoxicity.

Multicentric clinical trials on Arogyavardhini Vati and Pippalyasava for MASLD management.

A double-blind randomized study assessing Ayush-PTK efficacy in tuberculosis patients on ATT therapy.

The seminar will witness participation from leading experts in both modern and traditional medicine, including Prof. (Dr.) Ashutosh Biswas, Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS Bhubaneswar; Prof. Subrat Kumar Acharya, Pro-Chancellor, KIIMS Bhubaneswar & Executive Director, Fortis Escorts, New Delhi; and Dr. Sarada Ota, Assistant Director In-Charge, CARI Bhubaneswar. Several eminent scientists and clinicians such as Prof. Manas Ranjan Sahoo, Dr. N. Srikanth, Dr. Ashok B. K., and Dr. Rajesh Kumavat will also be present, contributing to a rich multidisciplinary discourse.
